RACE 4 (R1489) OPEN MAIDEN 1200M (SHORT COURSE A)
App A Zaimuddin, the rider of NOVA ANGEL, was fined RM100/- for negligence under
MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to utilize his claim fully.
Trainer BT Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing
to present ANGEL OF MINE with ear-muffs as declared.
ANGEL OF MINE (HS Gill) became fractious prior to the gates being released and reared
upon jumping, placing the rider at a disadvantage and as a result, was slow to begin.
MR NEWMAN (S Salee) got its head up and jumped awkwardly.
NOVA ANGEL (App A Zaimuddin) had a tendency to lay inwards shortly after the start
despite the efforts of its rider resulting in LEES DEFENDER (SS Vanan) and
DOMINATE (J Shankar) being inconvenienced.
In the early and middle stages, AUGUSTA had a tendency to race greenly and raced
ungenerously thereafter. Jockey J Low, the rider of AUGUSTA, confirmed this.
Approaching the 1000M, DGREAT SWIFT (L De Souza) shifted outwards abruptly
resulting in DOMINATE and AUGUSTA having to be checked by their riders. App L De
Souza who was having his first ride, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, was
shown the official patrol film of the incident and reminded of his obligation to exercise
greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future or a repetition will
lead to a penalty being taken against his license.
ANGEL OF MINE which was beaten 22 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet
test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.
Jockey SS Vanan who rode his 80th winner on LEES DEFENDER in this race, would only
be entitled to claim 1kg allowance as from Monday, 28 November 2016.
The Stewards questioned Jockey L Sofhan and Trainer F Maynard into the tactics that were
adopted on LORD OF SHANGHAI, in particular over the final 400M.
After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered,
the Stewards acting on their own observations, Jockey L Sofhan was found guilty of a
charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The
particulars of the charge were that in the home straight, he failed to ride by not using his
whip in the normal manner. The Stewards concern was that there was no contact with the
whip during this crucial part of the race.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey L Sofhans
mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the
provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey L
Sofhans suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month
with effect from 4 December 2016 and to expire on 3 January 2017, both dates inclusive.
He was also fined RM10,000/- and advised of his Right of Appeal (5:30pm).
