RACE 7 (R1211) CLASS 4 1700M (LONG COURSE B)

REAL MEAN (J De Souza) jumped awkwardly.

Upon jumping, Q NINE MASTER (App KC Tham) jumped outwards and inconvenienced

Approaching the 1200M, NEW YORK CITY (App A Zaimuddin) raced fiercely and had
to be eased off runners in front.

JET COSMO (J Shankar) and WONDERFUL SURPRISE (SS Vanan) both raced wide in
the middle stages.

Approaching the 400M, REAL MEAN (J De Souza) shifted out over the heels of MR
PAULANDRE (App AK Lim) to gain clear running.

Approaching the 400M, DGREAT BATTALION (App R Fakruddin) had to shift out over
the heels of the tiring GOLIATH (J Low) to gain a clear run.

Approaching the 200M, SWEET LODGE (App KC Wong) shifted out over the heels of
REAL MEAN to gain clear running.

Over the final 200M, JET COSMO had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider.
Jockey J Shankar confirmed this to the Stewards after the race.

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines and Jockey J Low into the tactics that were
adopted on GOLIATH in particular why Jockey J Low lead the field by a large margin
when in the opinion of the Stewards it was unnecessary. Jockey J Low reported that he was
riding to the Trainers instructions to lead the event and this was confirmed by the
Stewards through the Trainers Instruction Form. He further stated that he was unaware he
was so far in front as in his opinion, the horse was travelling well within himself.
Trainer R Lines agreed with the Jockeys instructions and confirmed that he had spoken to
the horses owners and these were the tactics that were going to be adopted in todays
event to try and improve the geldings performance. He further explained that this horse
came from Singapore and had only showed form on polytrack previously. The Stewards
after gave Jockey J Low a benefit of the doubt on this occasion and noted their comments
for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLIATH revealed no
significant finding. GOLIATH which was beaten 21 lengths, will be required to pass a
1000M/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.
