RACE 2 (R1206) CLASS 5 1100M (SHORT COURSE B)
The start of this race was delayed for 6 minutes when GOOD VIBRATIONS (App CK
Khaw) cast its off fore plate whilst inside the barriers. After being replated, the gelding
was examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to take its place in the
field.
LITTLE LION (HS Gill) jumped with its head in the air.
In the early stages of the event, JET ACE (J Shankar) had a tendency to lay in and bumped
several times with DGREAT WALL (J De Souza).
RANGITAIKI (M Wepner) and JET ACE (J Shankar) had a tendency to over-race while
leading the field despite the efforts of their riders to ease the pace.
GOOD VIBRATIONS was caught racing wide throughout the event.
Approaching the 300M, RANGITAIKI rolled out marginally and as a result, JET ACE had
to be steadied by its rider and as a result, momentarily clipped the heels of RANGITAIKI
and blundered. Shortly after this incident, JET ACE laid outwards and momentarily
inconvenienced NO NONSENSE (App A Zaimuddin).
At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey S Salee, the rider of MR VICTORY, pleaded guilty
to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that over the concluding
stages, he allowed his horse to shift out when being ridden with the whip resulting in
RANGITAIKI which was racing to his outside, being placed in restricted racing room to
the inside of GOOD VIBRATIONS.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Salees guilty plea,
mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the
provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey S
Salees suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2)
Malaysian race days with effect from 3 October 2016 and to expire on 15 October 2016,
both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
The Stewards questioned Trainer BT Lim and Jockey HS Gill into the disappointing
performance of LITTLE LION, the favourite in the event. Jockey HS Gill reported that
shortly after the start, the gelding showed very little interest and placed him under pressure
from the 600M, however, it failed to respond to his riding and could not offer any further
explanation. Trainer BT Lim stated that he was disappointed with the geldings run in
todays event. A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE LION revealed that the
gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass
a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again. The gelding was impounded.
