RACE 5 (R1054) CLASS 5 1400M (SHORT COURSE A)
This start was delayed for 6 minutes when RED EASTERN (App KC Tham) proved
difficult to be loaded into the barriers. RED EASTERN will be required to pass 1000M/vet
(from the starting stall) test before being declared to race again.
LITTLE LION (HS Gill) reared as the gates opened and shortly after this incident,
CHINESE SILHOUETTE (App W Faizal) shifted outwards resulting in LITTLE LION
being taken out onto ESPERANZA (J Low) and HAPPY CHOICE (App Z Kharil).
LITTLE LION had a tendency to race fiercely in the early and middle stages and got its
head up for some distance.
LITTLE LION made the turn at the 450M wide.
Leaving the 400M, ENCOSTA ZONE (S Ruzaini) had to be eased out over the heels of
FOX TREASURE (J De Souza) which was tiring, to gain a clear run.
App SU Lim, the rider of FLY HIGH, dropped his whip at about the 250M. He was fined
RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a).
FOX TREASURE which was beaten 23 1/2 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000M/vet
test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.
The Stewards questioned App Z Khairil, in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Hamilton,
into the disappointing performance of the last start winner, HAPPY CHOICE. App Z
Khairil explained that after beginning well, the gelding failed to show any early pace and
shortly after the start, was placed in a restricted racing room and was unable to hold his
position and for that reason, found himself towards the rear of the field. He further
explained that the pace was too quick for his horse in the event and he placed the gelding
under pressure in the home straight, however, it failed to respond to his riding.
Trainer S Hamilton added that in her opinion, HAPPY CHOICE does not like to race
amongst other horses and instructed her Apprentice that should he be unable to gain a
forward position, he should attempt to get a trailing position closer to the rails and not find
himself racing wide as in her opinion, the gelding does not perform well when covering
extra ground. After reviewing the official patrol films, the Stewards noted their comments for future
reference, however, reminded Trainer S Hamilton on the Rules regarding in and out
running. The Stewards informed Trainer S Hamilton to report back to the Stewards if there
is anything amiss with the gelding on returning to her stable. A post-race veterinary
examination of HAPPY CHOICE revealed no significant finding.
The Stewards questioned Jockey HS Gill into the tactics that were adopted on LITTLE
LION in particular from the 1000M to the 400M. After taking evidence from Jockey HS
Gill and Trainer BT Lim, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed.
