RACE 1 [TF0853]
MAIDEN SC (A) 1600M
After arriving at the barrier, JET STRIKER (A Da Silva) had its saddle
MISS WAIMATAITAI (CW Brown) was slow to begin after jumping away
WALTERS BAY (O Placais) and JET STRIKER were both slow to begin.
ASTROCANDY (M Ewe) jumped away awkwardly.
RACING TALENT (S John), which jumped awkwardly outwards, raced keenly
in the middle stages and approaching the 1500m, had to be steadied off the
heels of ZAHIR (N Juglall).
Near the 1500m, WALTERS BAY eased off the heels of DAWN OF THE WORLD
(S Anandan), which shifted outwards when racing keenly. At about the same
time, CARNELIAN (K Fujii) had to be eased after racing up onto the heels of
HOFFMAN (M Nunes), which steadied in front. HOFFMAN then raced keenly
and got its head up for some distance until passing the 1100m.
SUN DANCE (R Woodworth) and ZAHIR both raced wide throughout.
MISS WAIMATAITAI had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 400m
and the 200m.
ZAHIR had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that HOFFMAN had returned with the saddle
having slipped back during the running of the race.
Jockey O Chavez reported that NUMERO UNO was not striding out freely. A
subsequent veterinary examination confirmed this.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on ASTROCANDY which
revealed that the horse returned not striding out freely.
Trainer M Clements, when questioned regarding the apparent improved
performance of SLAVONIC DANCE (V Duric), stated that the filly which had
been freshened since its last run had performed reasonably well over 1600m
previously. He also stated that it had trialed well in Blinkers recently, and
with the addition of the Blinkers for this race combined with the services of a
strong senior rider, he had expected an improved performance for SLAVONIC
DANCE today. His explanation was noted.
