RACE 1 [TF0099]
KRANJI STAKES D LC (D) 1400M
Due to a delay resulting from the heavy downpour and lightning in the
vicinity of the Race Course prior to Race 1, this race was put back forty
minutes and rescheduled to start at 1900Hrs.
QUEENS ABEJA (M Zaki) and PUSAKA (App I Amirul) bumped heavily on
JUST NAME IT (CW Brown) jumped inwards at the start making contact with
HAPPY SAGA (J Powell). HAPPY SAGA was then crowded onto JUST NAME IT
when BRANKSOME (App WS Chan) shifted outwards after being bumped by
WARPATH (M Kellady).
Shortly after the start, ABOVE THE HORIZON (R Woodworth) hung outwards
making contact with the hindquarters of HEES FORTE (M Nunes) turning that
gelding inwards, resulting in ABOVE THE HORIZON having to be eased.
Approaching the 1100m, RUM N RAISINS (S Sam) had to be eased off the
heels of LUCKY COIN (E Chaves), which shifted inwards abruptly.
GOLD LINE (B Vorster) and JUST NAME IT both proved difficult to settle for a
short distance passing the 1000m.
Shortly after passing the 1000m, WARPATH had to be eased after racing up
onto the heels of HEES FORTE. WARPATH then continued to race keenly
until approaching the 500m.
ABOVE THE HORIZON raced wide throughout.
WARPATH was held up and unable to improve in the early part of the
An Objection was lodged by Jockey Kellady, the rider of second placegetter,
WARPATH, against LUCKY COIN, being declared the winner, on the grounds
of interference in the straight. After deliberation and considering all of the
evidence, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that after passing the
200m, WARPATH, which was racing behind LUCKY COIN, attempted to
improve to the inside of that gelding. However, LUCKY COIN, which was two
lengths clear of WARPATH, rolled inwards slightly. Thereafter, WARPATH was
taken outwards to the outside of LUCKY COIN. Taking into account the
alleged interference and the manner in which both horses finished off the
race, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference
had not affected the result of the race. As such, the Objection was overruled
and the result stood.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on HAPPY SAGA which
revealed no apparent abnormality.
