RACE 3 (R207) CLASS 5 - 1600M SIR GAUNTLET HANDICAP
TIME TO SHINE (KT Cheng) became restless in the barrier, broke through the front
gate, was quickly reined in, checked by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and
ROYAL GREEN (J Nizam) was restless in the barrier, turned its head to the side at the
start, hesitated and was slow to begin.
COCONUT (App S Shafrizal) and FREE GIFT (M Yusri) were both slow into stride.
FREE GIFT showed no early pace.
COCONUT raced wide on the home turn.
FREE GIFT switched outwards entering the home straight and finished the race wide.
Post-race veterinary examinations of ROYAL GREEN, COCONUT, FREE GIFT and
TIME TO SHINE revealed no obvious abnormality. ROYAL GREEN and TIME TO
SHINE were impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.
TRY THE CHANCE (M Leong), which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test
(1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
Trainer Dr SH Tan was questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of
COCONUT. After considering this geldings previous form (last 5 runs), the Stewards
were of the opinion that COCONUT had in-and-out form and was thus considered
unreliable. As such, the Stewards suspended COCONUT from racing for a period of one
(1) month from 8th February 2015 to 7th March 2015, both dates inclusive (MRA Rule of
Jockey M Yusri was questioned regarding his ride on FREE GIFT. He advised the
Stewards that the gelding was slow to begin and showed no early pace despite being
urged along. In the home straight, he had been instructed by Trainer KF Wong to go
wide in the straight and as such, FREE GIFT responded in the home straight. His
explanation was noted. Trainer KF Wong confirmed his instructions to go wide in the
App KC Tham rode his 40th winner on KIWI MAESTRO and as such will only be
entitled to claim 2kg from Monday, 9th February 2015.
