Jockey Brown, when questioned regarding the performance of MR DE NIRO,
stated that the gelding was a relatively nervous horse and had raced greenly
at its first Trial in Singapore. Thereafter, at the second Trial, it had trialled
with Blinkers, however, it had raced too keenly and as such, following the
Trial, it had been decided to have MR DE NIRO race without Blinkers. He
further stated that today, he had been able to lead fairly comfortably but MR
DE NIRO may have been distracted by IN BOCCA AL LUPO, which raced on
its outside. However, despite this, he felt that MR DE NIRO had been slightly
disappointing. Following the running of this race, he had recommended to
the Trainer that MR DE NIRO race in Blinkers as it may help the gelding
concentrate better in its races. His explanation was noted. A subsequent
veterinary examination was requested on MR DE NIRO which revealed no
Jockey Powell, when questioned regarding the run of WELL DONE, stated that
he had expected to race in a forward position. However, after receiving a
heavy bump on jumping, the gelding failed to show any early pace. This was
confirmed by the Stewards Video Footage. Thereafter, he was unable to
improve his position in the middle stages and had to be taken outwards near
the 250m to obtain a clear run. Thereafter, WELL DONE had finished the
race off well. His explanation was noted.
