RACE 2 (R1681) Class 5 1700m SUPREME GREY HANDICAP
KIWI MAESTRO, which was down 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked
by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
ROYAL GREEN (J Shankar) was a late scratching at 2.54 pm acting on veterinary advice
that it became very fractious in the barrier, reared up and became cast. ROYAL GREEN
will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.
Post-race veterinary examinations of SECRET APPROACH (Y Aify) and WORLD
SUPERMAN (M Razali) revealed no obvious abnormality.
The Stewards questioned Jockey R Burnett as to the performance of SPEED MAN.
Jockey R Burnett stated that his instruction was to get a good jump, sit handy and do his
best in the straight. He said that racing to the first turn at the 1300M, SPEED MAN was
not able to race handy as instructed and was obliged to race further back in the field than
he anticipated. From the 1200M, he managed to improve his position to race behind the
leaders. From the 700M when he put SPEED MAN under pressure, the gelding failed to
respond and weakened out of the race. The Stewards noted his explanation, however
they were critical of his lack of determination in the early stages to hold his forward
position as instructed when KIWI MAESTRO improved around him, resulting in SPEED
MAN losing its position and being shuffled back to second last position. Jockey R
Burnett was warned to ride all his mounts in a manner so as to leave no room for query in
future. A post-race veterinary examination of SPEED MAN revealed no obvious
