RACE 4 (R1675) Class 5 - 1600m BIG SURF HANDICAP
SPEED MAN (HK Cheng) and KIM PROTECTOR (K Yazid) jumped awkwardly.
WORLD SUPREME (K Eirwan), which was slow to begin, jumped awkwardly outwards
and bumped the hind quarters of COCONUT (App S Shafrizal). As a result, jockey K
Eirwan became unbalanced in the saddle.
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that LAZAROO (Y Aify) returned, having cast its off
Post-race veterinary examinations of SYCE CRACKER (App CC Wong) and WORLD
SUPREME revealed no obvious abnormality. SYCE CRACKER, which raced poorly,
will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
Jockey K Yazid, the rider of KIM PROTECTOR, reported that his mount was not
striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WORLD SUPREME,
Trainer C Robert stated that he gave the same instructions as at its previous start, that is
midfield to back. He further stated that WORLD SUPREME is inclined to be a lazy
horse and needs a couple of cracks with the whip to wake him up and do his best in the
straight. Trainer C Robert further stated that he was disappointed with WORLD
SUPREMEs performance today although the gelding had been working well since its
previous last start win. He was unable to offer no other tangible explanation regarding
the geldings disappointing performance today. The Stewards noted his explanation and
told Trainer C Robert that he is to report to the Stewards should he find anything amiss
that could have affected the geldings performance today.
The Stewards questioned Trainer T Asogan and Jockey K Yazid regarding the
performance of KIM PROTECTOR. Jockey Yazid explained that he was instructed to
get a good jump and sit midfield and do his best in the straight. He stated that KIM
PROTECTOR after jumping moderately, he was obliged to ease when racing between
SYCE CRACKER and SPEED MAN approaching the 1400M turn and this placed him
further back than he intended, and in the straight KIM PROTECTOR ran on under his
riding. Trainer T Asogan confirmed the instructions and said that his intention was to
hold KIM PROTECTOR up from its last start as it did not finish the race as well as he
expected. The Stewards noted their explanations but were not entirely satisfied with
Jockey Yazids ride as they are of the opinion that Jockey Yazid could have held his
ground racing to the 1400M turn and his lack of urgency in the back straight to regain lost
ground where there was opportunity to do so. Jockey Yazid was warned and told that he
was being given the benefit of the doubt and that he is to ride all his mounts in a manner
that leaves no room for query.
