THE TIGER (App KL Lee) jumped awkwardly, throwing its head in the air and was slow
BLACK AHEAD (HS Gill) was slow into stride.
BOSS CAT (HK Cheng) which jumped awkwardly and shifted out at the start was slow
When questioned regarding his ride on BOSS CAT, Jockey HK Cheng stated that he was
instructed to get a good jump, sit midfield and do his best in the straight. He said after
jumping awkwardly and being slow into stride, BOSS CAT raced further back than he
was instructed and when placed under pressure in the straight, the gelding hung in on a
few occasions. The Stewards noted his explanation but told Jockey Cheng that they were
not entirely satisfied with his efforts to get BOSS CAT to jump cleanly away from the
barrier as he allowed BOSS CAT to turn its head to the right before the gates were
opened. In their opinion this has led to BOSS CAT racing further back in the field and in
the straight, they were critical of his efforts to keep BOSS CAT on a straight course.
Jockey Cheng was given the benefit of the doubt and was warned that he is ride all his
mounts in future that leaves no room for query.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JUST BLESSED (J De
Souza), Trainer Dr SH Tan stated that his instructions were to get a good jump, ride a
forward race and do his best in the straight but could offer no tangible explanation as to
why the gelding failed to run on and its effort was disappointing. The Stewards noted his
explanation and reminded Trainer Dr Tan regarding the rules in relation to in-and-out
running and should anything come to his attention that may have affected the geldings
performance today, he was to report the matter to the Stewards. A post-race veterinary
examination of JUST BLESSED revealed no obvious abnormality. JUST BLESSED was
