After arriving at the barrier, ITALIAN JOB (I Santana) had its saddle
readjusted.
PERFECT CHARGER (O Chavez), which began awkwardly, had to be steadied
to avoid the heels of FAALTLESS (D Beasley) shortly after the start when that
gelding shifted inwards.
ITALIAN JOB raced wide throughout.
Shortly after passing the 400m, ZAC SPIRIT (A Munro) steadied outwards
away from FAALTLESS, which had been carried outwards slightly by SPALATO
(J McDonald).
PERFECT CHARGER, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m
gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.
The Farrier reported that SPALATO returned having cast its off-fore plate.
App Z Zuriman reported that RED BEARD was not striding out freely. A
subsequent veterinary examination confirmed this.
At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey J McDonald, the rider of SPALATO, pleaded
guilty to a charge of misconduct under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he failed
to participate in the completion of the presentation and photo-taking with the
Winning Connections. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into
account that Jockey McDonald had shown remorse and had offered his
apologies to the Singapore Turf Club and the Panel of Stewards in regard to
his conduct. He was fined a sum of S$2,000 and advised of his Right of
Appeal.
