When questioned regarding the improved performance of FLYING GIFT compared to its
last start on 26th January 2013 in a Maiden 1200M in KL, finished 10th, beaten 12
lengths, Trainer J Tan stated that FLYING GIFT had its first start in KL and raced
greenly on that occasion. He said that he trialed FLYING GIFT recently in blinkers
which in his opinion contributed to the improved performance today. His explanation
was noted and he was reminded of his obligations regarding in-and-out of running.
When questioned regarding his ride on SPEED STAR, Jockey TM Wan stated that he
was instructed to get a good jump, sit 6th or 7th position and make his move near the
600M. He said that after getting a good jump, he was able to sit in a position as
instructed, however when he asked for an effort from the 600M, SPEED STAR did
respond moderately and near the 200M, SPEED STAR laid inwards, obliging him to stop
and straighten. He further stated that his mount was not responding well enough under
the whip and as such, he elected to put the whip away and ride hands and heels to the
winning post. The Stewards told Jockey TM Wan that he should have continued with the
whip instead of altering his vigour over the concluding stages of the race as it appeared
that SPEED STAR was responding to his riding. He was warned to ride all his mounts
out in future so as to leave no room for query.
