RACE 3 [TF1289]
OPEN BENCHMARK 67 1600M
CHEETAH (I Saifudin) raced wide in the in the early and middle stages.
Near the 600m, KNIGHTS COMMAND (App Z Zuriman) was carried wider
when FUJIN BRIGHT (B Vorster) shifted outwards to improve. KNIGHTS
COMMAND then laid outwards making the turn into the straight.
Passing the 200m, MY FRIEND JO (J Powell) laid outwards and made contact
with WINNING SUCCESS (M Nunes).
Jockey Saifudin, the rider of CHEETAH, reported that the gelding had
returned with its saddle having shifted back during the race. This was
subsequently confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon.
CHEETAH, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial
and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.
App Zuriman reported that KNIGHTS COMMAND was not striding out
freely. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed that the horse
returned lame off-hind. KNIGHTS COMMAND will be required to pass a
1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race
Jockey A Munro, when questioned regarding the disappointing performance
of SEASONS ECHO, stated that due to the fast pace, he settled in a rearward
position. However, when he placed the gelding under pressure near the
800m, it failed to run on and disappointed. He further stated that SEASONS
ECHO may have resented the kickback. Trainer D Hill advised that whilst
SEASONS ECHO had previously been placed on the Polytrack, it had been
able to race in a forward position on that occasion. He further stated that he
believed that SEASONS ECHO may not have appreciated the kickback as a
result of racing back in the field and it was now his intention to race
SEASONS ECHO on the Turf at its future starts. Their explanations were
noted. A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SEASONS
ECHO which revealed no apparent abnormality.
