RACE 9 [TF282]
CLASS 4 LC (E) 1600M
As to avoid a clash with an overseas race prior to Race 7, this race was put
back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1705Hrs.
GRAVLAX (A Munro) stood flat-footed, was slow to begin and lost
considerable ground. GRAVLAX will be required to pass one starting stall test
prior to being declared to race again in terms of MRA Rule 78(2).
Shortly after the start, QUITE A MAN (M Kellady) was crowded between
DREAM ON (B Vorster) and SOUTH GATE (R Lim), which was bumped
outwards by JOYOUS EXPRESS (M Nunes).
BY LAW (J Moreira) raced wide without cover throughout.
SOUTH GATE, WINNING SUCCESS (D Bonilla) and QUITE A MAN had
difficulty obtaining a clear run from the 600m to the 400m.
Near the 450m, QUITE A MAN checked when racing between WINNING
SUCCESS and LADY TRIO (App TH Koh). An Inquiry into this incident will be
held at a date to be fixed.
Approaching the 200m, LADY TRIO was accidentally struck on the head by
the whip of Jockey Bonilla, the rider of WINNING SUCCESS. As a result,
LADY TRIO lost ground. Shortly thereafter, LADY TRIO steadied when
crowded for room between WINNING SUCCESS, which shifted inwards
slightly and SOUTH GATE, which shifted outwards slightly when improving to
the outside of DREAM ON.
FUJIN BRIGHT (V Sivan), which raced poorly, will be required to pass a
1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race
The Veterinary Surgeon reported that LADY TRIO bled. In terms of MRA Rule
92(3), it will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks
of any racecourse for a period of two months, and may not start in any race
for a period of three months, and then only after having satisfactorily passed
a bleeders test.
Subsequent veterinary examinations were requested on both BY LAW and
GRAVLAX which revealed no apparent abnormality.
Jockey Lim, when questioned regarding the run of SOUTH GATE, stated that
he was held up from the 600m to near the 400m. He added that in the early
part of the straight, he was able to ride his mount along until near the 300m
where he again was held up and had to change course to obtain a clear run
on the outside of FUJIN BRIGHT. He further added that near the 200m, he
was momentarily crowded for room and from that point onwards, obtained
clear running and his mount ran on strongly. His explanation was noted.
