RACE 7 (R1599) MALAYSIA 2012 4 YEAR OLD CHALLENGE 1600M (lc)
Emergency acceptor LUCKY COMET was withdrawn due to a capacity field.
Jockey CF Chan (NINETYFIVE ROCKET) was examined by the Medical Officer and
passed fit to fulfil his riding engagements for the remainder of the day.
MONEY IS KING which was up 16kgs, FOREVER ROSE which was up 15kgs and
SHAMACAM which was down 21kgs in body weight since their last run, were checked
by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.
Stewards acceded to the request of Trainer Ms. Edylyn Goh to remove blinkers from
LITTLEBITOFJOY (BN Shahrul) due to the heavy track condition.
LITTLEBITOF JOY, ALI BABA (App CK Tan), NINETYFIVE ROCKET (CF Chan)
and RECORD TIME (App BN Kumar) were all slowly away.
MONEY IS KING (K Eirwan) was slow into stride and showed no early pace despite
being urged along.
CALIFORNIAN JET (J Low) and FOREVER ROSE (WK Yan) were difficult to settle in
the early and middle stages.
MONEY IS KING raced wide in the backstraight.
ALI BABA raced wide throughout.
Near the 200m and the 100M, JOYFUL (J Shankar) laid inwards, obliging its rider to
stop and straighten.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FOREVER ROSE (WK Yan) had bled and
will be barred from racing for a period of six (6) months under MRA Rule 92(5)(a)&(b).
A post-race veterinary examination of CONFALCON (S John) revealed that the gelding
had returned with respiratory distress and will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet)
before being entered to race again.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHAMACAM, Jockey J
De Souza stated that he was instructed to get a good jump, sit handy in 2nd or 3rd position.
He said that in the early stages, SHAMACAM raced keenly and was forced to go to the
front, as there was no leader. He said that when he asked for an effort in the home
straight, SHAMACAM did not handle the heavy track. His explanation was noted.
Trainer Selvaratnam confirmed the instructions and stated that he expected
LITTLEBITOFJOY to lead today and he instructed Jockey J De Souza to sit in behind
the expected leader, however when that did not eventuate, SHAMACAM was found to be
in front. Trainer Selvaratnam further stated that he galloped SHAMACAM last Saturday,
and performed well in preparation for todays race, but was disappointing. Trainer
Selvaratnam was advised that if he detects any abnormality with the gelding after cooling
down, he would be expected to report this to the Stewards. His explanation was noted. A
post-race veterinary examination of SHAMACAM revealed no obvious abnormality.
SHAMACAM was impounded.
