FIRECRACKER HANDICAP
GUANGDONG HEROES which was down 18kgs in body weight since its last run, was
checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
The Stewards permitted jockey H Barnabas to replace jockey KT Cheng on
GUANGDONG HEROES.
APRIL RAIN (J Shankar) cast its near-fore plate at the barriers. To avoid an unnecessary
delay, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of APRIL RAIN at 16:06.
Acting on a report from the official Starter that SUPERB INCREDIBLE (HK Cheng)
was difficult to be loaded, the gelding will be required to pass a test (starting stall) before
being entered to race again.
LEGEND (App K Yazid) was slow into stride
GOOD PLANNING (App BN Kumar) showed no early pace despite being urged along.
Near the 1500M, GUANGDONG HEROES (H Barnabas) checked. An inquiry into this
incident will be held at a date to be fixed.
Near the 1400M, KAMPONG CHANTEK (M Wepner) brushed the running rail.
Near the 1400M, TOTORSA (K Eirwan) checked. An inquiry into this incident will be
held at a date to be fixed.
TANHA STRIKE (TM Wan) raced wide in the back straight and on the home turn.
Near the 400M, OUR FAITH (App Z Khairil) which was improving, switched outwards
across the heels of SUPERB INCREDIBLE and in doing so, took TOTORSA and
TANHA STRIKE wide on the track. App Z Khairil, the rider of OUR FAITH, will be
shown the film and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
Near the 200M, CIZEN BOAMA (App A Nawawi) steadied across the heels of NORTH
TO ALASKA (App WT Chung) which rolled inwards.
LEGEND raced wide throughout the running of the race.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that LIRA (App Jasmin) returned cut near-hind.
Post-race veterinary examinations on GUANGDONG HEROES and GOLDEN JAGUAR
(WK Yan) revealed no obvious abnormality.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BERNANKE, Jockey J
Low stated that he was instructed to get a good jump and sit midfield and not to use the
gelding up too early. He further stated that he was able to sit midfield, however in the
home straight when he asked for an effort, the horse did not respond and was
disappointing. His explanation was noted. Trainer S Jones confirmed the instructions
and stated that he just took over the training of BERNANKE and has been happy with
the geldings preparation leading into todays race and expected BERNANKE to run
well. Trainer S Jones further stated that BERNANKE was up in class and distance today
and also he noticed during the race that BERNANKE was held up behind a number of
runners from the 600M and in his opinion, the gelding had lost momentum and believed
they were contributing factors to the disappointing performance today. His explanation
was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of BERNANKE revealed that the
gelding returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to
pass a test (1000M/vet) before being entered to race again.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TOTORSA, Jockey K
Eirwan stated that he was instructed to get a good jump and try to sit 5th, 6th or 7th
position from a wide barrier and not to use up the gelding too early. He further stated
that approaching the first turn, he received interference and as such, he was unable to get
across as instructed and was forced to race wide in the early stages. Jockey Eirwan stated
that he raced wide throughout the race and covered a lot of extra ground. He also stated
that he reported to the Stewards after the race that the saddle slipped backwards and
slightly disadvantaged him during the running of the race. His explanation was noted. A
post-race veterinary examination of TOTORSA revealed no obvious abnormality. The
gelding was impounded.
