RACE 1 (R1271) Class 5 1200M (lc)
PERAK RIVER HANDICAP
BASSANIO, a course scratching as it was sore both fore foot, will be required to undergo
a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
Prior to the race, Trainer KF Coetzee advised the Stewards that due to the heavy going,
he will instruct Jockey H Barnabas, the rider of SHANGHAI SAM to sit handy and in the
home straight, to race wide in a better going.
VERY STYLO (TM Wan) jumped awkwardly with its head up.
RUMPELSTILTSKIN (App KK Khoo) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped
CHINA TOWN BANK (J Shankar).
SHANGHAI SAM (H Barnabas) raced keenly and was difficult to settle in the early and
middle stages.
Near the 1100M, LIMS QUARTZ (K Eirwan) which commenced to over-race, steadied
and switched inwards across the heels of SHANGHAI SAM.
Near the 1000M, PLANCK TIME (M Djulkifli) which commenced to race keenly,
checked off the heels of RUMPELSTILTSKIN which shifted inwards. App KK Khoo,
the rider of RUMPELSTILTSKIN, in the presence of his Master, Trainer P Lee, was
shown the video of the incident and warned to exercise more care when shifting ground
in future. VERY STYLO which was following, steadied off the heels of PLANCK TIME.
A post-race veterinary examination of FINAL APPROACH revealed that it was lame
near fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being entered to
race again.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BRING IT ON, Jockey Y
Aify stated that he was instructed to get a good jump and sit 3rd or 4th and maintain that
position until entering the home straight and to do his best to win or run a place. Jockey
Y Aify stated that after drawing a wide barrier, he gradually was able to move across and
sit 3rd or 4th as instructed, however, when he asked for an effort in the home straight, his
mount did not respond as expected. His explanation was noted. Trainer KL Chong
confirmed the instructions and advised the Stewards that after BRING IT ON had won a
recent Barrier Trial, he expected the gelding to run a good race today, however, was
disappointing. Trainer KL Chong was advised that if he detects any abnormality with the
gelding after cooling down, he would be expected to report this to the Stewards. His
explanation was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of BRING IT ON revealed no
obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded.
When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of BALE (App I Fadzlei)
as compared to its last start on 25th August 2012 in Class 5 over the 1400M when the
gelding finished 14th, beaten 13 3/4 lengths, Trainer LN Danis advised the Stewards that
he has only had BALE in his stable for 2 starts after coming from Singapore. Trainer LN
Danis stated that BALE had resumed from a 4-month spell last start and with the benefit
of a recent Barrier Trial when it ran second and with the heavy track today, believed it
had contributed to the improved performance of the horse. His explanation was noted and
his attention was drawn to the Rules regarding in and out running.
