RACE 2 [TF657]
INITIATION LC (E) 1200M
Due to the heavy downpour prior to Race 2, this race was put back fifteen
minutes and rescheduled to start at 1335Hrs.
STARSTRUCK (App R Zawari) was restless in the barrier. Trainer B Dean was
advised that a warning has been placed on STARSTRUCK regarding its barrier
manners and to take steps to improve them or action may be taken in future.
Shortly after the start, STARSTRUCK and MY TRACK (App TH Koh) were both
crowded between AFTERNOON DELIGHT (I Andy), which shifted inwards and
CHAMPAGNE ROSE (J Saimee), which was bumped outwards by SELECT
GATHERING (O Bosson).
Near the 1000m, THE GREAT GREY (S Baster) checked when racing to the
inside of FIRTH (D Beasley) and AFTERNOON DELIGHT. WONDER HOPE (App
WL Tan), which was following, was also inconvenienced in this incident. At a
subsequent Inquiry, Jockey Andy was found guilty to a charge of careless
riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that near the 1000m, he made
insufficient effort to straighten his mount, thereby resulting in it shifting
inwards and crowding FIRTH in onto THE GREAT GREY , which checked and
lost ground. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his
record and the degree of interference and carelessness. Jockey Andy was
suspended from riding in races with effect from Monday, 07 May 2012 until
Sunday, 13 May 2012 both dates inclusive (three Race Days) and was
advised of his Right of Appeal.
An Objection was lodged by Jockey Baster, the rider of fifth placegetter, THE
GREAT GREY, against AFTERNOON DELIGHT, being the fourth placegetter, on
the grounds of interference near the 1000m. After considering all of the
evidence and after deliberation, the Race Meeting Stewards were of the
opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race
and the Objection was overruled. The result stood and Jockey Basters
deposit was refunded.
STARSTRUCK raced wide throughout.
STARSTRUCK, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m gallop
trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.
A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on CHAMPAGNE ROSE
which revealed no apparent abnormality.
FIRTH was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The
Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.
