As Trainer SB Tan was not present on course, the Stewards will question him regarding
the apparent improved performance of SUSPECT at a date to be fixed.
When questioned regarding his ride on SPICE MASTER, App K Yazid, in the presence
of his Master, Trainer S Cook, explained that he was instructed to sit midfield and to
make his move at the top of the straight. He stated that he was unaware that SUSPECT,
the eventual winner of the race, had set a commanding lead until entering the home
straight. App K Yazid further stated that he was having his first ride on SPICE MASTER
and was endeavouring to carry out the instructions to the best of his ability. He was told
that the Stewards were not entirely happy with his ride and should have used his initiative
to work into the race a lot sooner than what he did today under the circumstances. The
Stewards also told App K Yazid that he should have been more vigourous on SPICE
MASTER in the home straight than what he did today and warned him to ride all his
mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.
When questioned, Trainer S Cook confirmed the instructions and advised the Stewards
that SPICE MASTER has won on two previous occasions when ridden quietly back in
the field and instructed App K Yazid not to move too early as it does not suit the horse.
He further stated that he instructed App K Yazid to whenever possible, make his run
towards the inside in the home straight as opposed to going around the field. Trainer S
Cook further explained that SPICE MASTER was having its first start after a spell with
the benefit of two recent barrier trials and was up 5kgs in body weight today. His
explanation was noted.
